These are the REAL ages of the Bridgerton cast

One of Netflix’s most successful series ever is “Bridgerton,” which is adapted from Julia Quinn’s Regency-era romance novels.


The first two seasons of “Bridgerton” garnered massive popularity for Netflix, as did the spin-off series “Queen Charlotte: A Bridgerton Story.” As a result, Netflix’s merchandise store now offers a variety of “Bridgerton” items, including T-shirts, jewelry, tea sets, tiaras, and artwork.

Similar to many shows featuring teenagers and young adults, the actors portraying the Bridgerton family and their romantic partners are actually older than their on-screen characters. This season’s leading actors, Luke Newton and Nicola Coughlan, are 31 and 37 years old, respectively, while their characters are 24 and 19.

Here’s a look at how the ages of the rest of the cast compare to their characters.

Daphne Bridgerton ( Played by Phoebe Dynevor )

Daphne Bridgerton is 21 when she debuts in British society and will be 23 by season three. The first season, based on the novel “The Duke and I,” takes place in 1813 and follows Daphne’s complicated relationship with the Duke of Hastings. Season three, set in 1815, means two years have passed, making Daphne 23.

Phoebe Dynevor, who plays Daphne, turned 29 in April 2024. She was 24 during the filming of season one, only slightly older than her character but younger than some actors playing younger roles. Dynevor will not appear in season three but may return in future seasons.

Simon Basset ( Played by Regé-Jean Page )

Simon Basset, the Duke of Hastings, is 29 in the first season of “Bridgerton” and would be at least 31 by season three. Although he vowed never to marry or have children to spite his late father, he eventually breaks this promise.

Regé-Jean Page, who plays Simon, turned 36 in 2024. After season one, Page left “Bridgerton” to explore other opportunities, but his character is still referenced in season two.

Anthony Bridgerton ( Played by Jonathan Bailey )

Anthony Bridgerton, the eldest sibling, is 32 in season three of “Bridgerton.” The Bridgerton children are named alphabetically: Anthony, Benedict, Colin, Daphne, Eloise, Francesca, Gregory, and Hyacinth. Season two, centered on Anthony’s romance with Kate Sharma, places him at 31.

Jonathan Bailey, who plays Anthony, is 36 with an April birthday. He is only a few years older than his character but around the same age as the actress playing Eloise, despite their characters’ age difference.

Bailey will reprise his role in season three as Anthony enjoys married life with Kate. Alongside “Bridgerton,” Bailey stars in “Fellow Travelers” and will appear in the film adaptations of “Wicked” and the new “Jurassic World” movie.

Benedict Bridgerton ( Played by Luke Thompson )

Next in line after Anthony is 29-year-old Benedict Bridgerton. Although his story, “An Offer from a Gentleman,” is the third book in the series, the show skipped it for season three, possibly saving it for season four.

Benedict is played by 35-year-old Luke Thompson, who will turn 36 in July 2024. Interestingly, Thompson is the same age as Jonathan Bailey, who plays his older brother Anthony. Thompson was 33 during the filming of season two.

The third eldest Bridgerton sibling, Colin, is 24. He spent the first two seasons infatuated with Marina Thompson, but fans of his book, “Romancing Mister Bridgerton,” know their romance wasn’t destined to last.

In season three, viewers will finally see Colin’s true soulmate, as the season is based on his book.

Colin is portrayed by 31-year-old Luke Newton. He was 30 during the filming of season three, making him a few years older than his character.

Eloise Bridgerton ( played by Claudia Jessie )

Daphne’s younger sister, Eloise, is supposed to be 19. Throughout the first two seasons, Eloise rightfully complains about the limited options available to women, which are mainly getting married and having children.

Fans can read the fifth book, “To Sir Phillip, With Love,” to discover Eloise’s future, but it will be interesting to see how her story unfolds in season three.

Eloise is played by 34-year-old Claudia Jessie, who is in her 30s portraying a teenager. Jessie made her first on-screen appearance in a 2012 episode of the British soap opera “Doctors” at age 22.

Francesca Bridgerton ( played by Hannah Dodd )

Following Eloise is her younger sister Francesca, who is newly 18 and making her debut in society in season three. Although Francesca hasn’t been a major character so far, her debut suggests that a future season of “Bridgerton” will focus on her story, as told in the sixth book, “When He Was Wicked.”

Francesca is now played by 28-year-old Hannah Dodd, a full decade older than her character. Ruby Stokes, who is 23, originally played Francesca in the first two seasons but left the role to star in another Netflix series, “Lockwood & Co.” In season three, Dodd takes over as Francesca.

Penelope Featherington ( Played by Nicola Coughlan )

Eloise’s best friend, Penelope Featherington, is also 19. Throughout the first two seasons, Penelope pines for Colin Bridgerton and even schemes to keep her cousin Marina away from him. She is a fan-favorite for being one of the most relatable characters on the show.

SPOILER ALERT
For season one: Penelope is revealed to be Lady Whistledown, a secret that isn’t unveiled until the fourth book. This twist means that both book readers and show watchers will be surprised by the hijinks in season three.

Season three will also finally explore the love story between Penelope and Colin.

In real life, Nicola Coughlan, who plays Penelope, is 37. She has been playing a teenager since 2018, including her role as high school student Clare in the Irish sitcom “Derry Girls,” which ended in 2022. Coughlan was 35 when she started filming season three of “Bridgerton,” and she turned 37 in January 2024.
